Lens Issue

Post by Nathan Hunsworth » Mon Jan 09, 2017 2:29 pm

Evening all, you would not believe the luck I am having, after a full rewire of the laser cutter and I do mean full.over the holidays and a replacement controller. Loads of thanks and appreciation to Keith and all on here for the support while doing all this troubleshooting.

I have finally got around to running some small test jobs on the cutter to see how it performs and noticed it was having real issues cutting 4mm acrylic. So a full check or everything I found the following

So question if I am going to replace this any recommendations, the diameter is 18mm.

Have found the following, any thoughts or recommendations

Do you know for a fact that you have a 2" (50.xmm) lens? Beyond that- with my 130w laser I use cheap lenses from all different sources and don't notice a lot of difference (I buy a couple at a time as they are expendable)- with a low power laser I believe a HQ lens will work better (less loss) at 2-2.5x the price. It kinda depends on if you feel your power is adequate. Your laser almost certainly came with a cheap lens so hopefully you got to try it out enough to get a feel for how much power you had cutting what you are likely to cut. Gene

Gene,

Thanks I know it was a 2" FL Lens as before the controller died at Christmas I had done a number of tests and worked it out.

Will see what others are out there

You might talk to the people at Light Objects and ask them what you get for the different price points. They seem to be reputable if you are willing to pay a little more for a domestic seller. You just never know what you will get ordering from unknown sellers on ebay, amazon and alibaba.

This is the vendor I have used for both my 1.5" and 2.0" HQ lenses. So far I've been happy.

Afternoon all,as you know a couple of weeks ago I was having issues with my laser cutter and it was tracked down to a broken lens, now I took it out to measure and order a replacement. which came today and for the lice of me can not remember which way up the lens goes. Could anybody let me know which way the lens should go, Convex up or down. I know I should have made a note
