Focal length guage

Postby Gene Uselman » Sat Jul 16, 2016 7:37 am

I thought I got this Idea from Russ S. but I must have gotten it on the WWW somewhere- anyway this is my redesign of it and it works very nicely.
The black on the bottom is where my machine normally will focus- you can move it to what ever your focus is. I darkened it with a magic marker for ease of location. I often focus lower (and sometimes higher) for thick substrates and it is easy to check with this gauge. The ribbon I did get from Russ- with a clear gauge- it is easy to lose.

Actually it was one of Russ' earlier vids- before the Learning Lab series. Mea Culpa.

I apparently muffed the export- I work 'mostly' in inches, but RDworks even when loaded in inches- a lot of the stuff is in mm.
I am oldish and sometimes get confused. I will upload the correct file. Sorry and thanks for the poke, I need it. Gene

I think Gene meant Focal Length. To do that, just focus the lens, then measure up from the focused surface to the bottom of the lens. That will give you thee "Approximate" Focal Length. The lenses seem to come in 1/2" (12.7 mm) increments:
25.4(1")
38 (1-1/2")
50.8 (2")
63.5 (2-1/2")
76.2 (3")

Interesting method! I think the other method is way easier and you don't need rubber gloves for protection.
