Cutting a Panda out of Foam Core

Post by Roy Bartels » Sat Jan 07, 2017 10:22 am

I've been experimenting cutting foam core. If I set my laser at speed 100 power 10/40.
Did 1 pass on front and 2 passes on back it cut thru with minimum of undercutting except at the pointy areas where it had to really slow down.
Any suggestions to eliminate under cutting more?

Roy- is that a print that you are cutting around? And if so is it a vinyl print? Gene

Thanks Malcolm I'll try that tomorrow. Wife says I've reached my laser limit for the day :)

Hi Gene,
It's a vector graphic.
I put a 16 pt black stroke around it for some wiggle room.
then used the same stroke as the cut line.

Printed the image on 32# paper in a color copier.
Not sure it is safe to cut vinyl

Hi Roy- it is not safe to cut PVC but printed vinyl is very thin and there are conflicting points of view. I do have some non-pvc media and laminate for our solvent printer but have not had time (or a good reason) to try it yet. So many things to try... so little time. Gene

Try to cut your foam-board using dot-mode..!
I made some nice results this way.
