Split shipping on new tube?

Post by Dustin Hawkinson » Thu Dec 29, 2016 2:29 pm

Has anyone found others nearby who have similar lasers?

Today I started considering purchasing a replacement tube since I am on the original factory supplied tube, and I have a lot of engraving in the weeks ahead. I would not like to have to wait on a replacement in the middle of a large job. I haven't made the decision yet, just thinking about it, but I've been looking at 1200mm 60W tubes:

-------------------

LightObject says theirs will be back in stock in January or February:

Tube

Cost of one tube: $390

Cost of shipping: Unknown (somewhere between $40 and $145)
*The tube is out of stock and can not be added to cart. A 1000mm tube ships for $40, and a 1250mm tube ships for $145. Quite a difference.

Total Cost: Unknown - Maybe $475ish

Time to delivery ~ 6 weeks

--------------------

Mactron - Individual Tube on AliExpress (this link has been posted in other threads, it is where Russ bought his last replacement tube)

Tube

Cost of one tube: $190

Shipping: $299.57

Total Cost: $489.57 (not including a current $5 coupon/sale)

Time to delivery 6 - 13 days

---------------------

Mactron - Split cost of two tubes on AliExpress (costs are taking an order of two tubes and dividing in half)

Tube

Cost of one tube: $180

Half of Shipping: $180.74 - ($361.47 / 2)

Total Cost per person: $361.74 ($721.47 / 2) (not including a current $5 coupon/sale)

Time to delivery 6 - 13 days

----------------------

Any thoughts?

Nice find in regard to the discount for buying and shipping two at the same time. I wonder if they have to be the exact same tube to get the discount. I hope you can find someone near you who needs one.

It is too bad that these tubes are constantly degrading from the day they are built. If you buy a spare and a need for a replacement pops up before it goes bad and out of warranty, you are a hero. If you buy one and there isn't a need for a replacement before the tube goes bad on the shelf, it is money down the drain. Tough call.

Well I may have jinxed myself. Either my PSU or my tube just died.

Thanks Ron. I ordered a tube from LO last night just because I need one asap and didn't have time for more research/consideration. I looked for a Thunderlaser website that I could purchase tubes from and didn't find one. I did find this on ebay which is the same size tube that I paid $260 (shipped) for last night:

Assuming it is legit, that seems like a sweet deal.

This is the main site for Thunder Laser but I think if you want replacement tubes you have to go their Alibaba store.

Thunderlaser USA warehouse is in Texas under the name of Lonestar Laser Co Email: clay@lonestarlaserco.com
I guess they subcontract for them, easier than trying to ship from China. It's a pretty new deal they have going.
http://www.thunderlaser.com/usa-laser-engraver/ is the website for machines but they don't have a parts section yet listed. So I imagine it's in the works.
For a Chinese company I have been really impressed with the communication. They helped me all the way through the shipping from China process before the USA site got started. I think they are starting to understand the American way of doing business. Nolan Yang is my go to guy.

If I was buying direct from a manufacturer based in China, Thunder would be high on my list for investigation. They are making a real effort up the bar in terms of quality and support in English.

When I sent Thunderlaser the down payment I was pretty nervous at first. But then I got a build video of my machine showing it engraving my name and a picture of the crew that was assigned to it. It was pretty cool and I felt good about sending my final payment. I got updates from the time it left China until it reached the Port of Houston. Once I got it set and fired up I've never had a hiccup. It seemed to be running a little to quickly and had some shudder like a washing machine. I emailed Nolan and within a little while he e-mailed instructions back on how to set my user files. I slowed it down a little ( actually just decreased the acceleration) and it's been smooth running ever since. I do keep it clean and well oiled. I think they are standing above the other Chinese manufacturers and god knows there are plenty of them.
