I had the same problem in 2015, only 10 minutes away and the laser is a total loss.
Fortunately I was insured and I was able to buy a new one.
But this lesson was very loud and could end very badly.
Put the laser always off if you are not in sight of the machine.
Install a smoke detector above the machine, over heating can cause fire when your gone for just 1 minute.

Thanks for the reminder. I meant to get one ordered before the year end to put on the 2016 deductions but forgot! FWIW, this is the most reasonably priced Halotron unit with a wall bracket that I have found.

This link is to the page where Amazon is selling it directly and offers prime shipping BUT it is currently out of stock. No affiliation, just trying to save others time searching.

Here is the next best listing I found with the item listed as actually in stock through Zorro with free shipping on ebay (you can buy direct from the Zoro site for the same price but I like the buyer protection of ebay+PayPal). Again, I have no affiliation so do your homework before buying!

have you considered installing something like this: https://www.amazon.com/BlazeCut-Automat ... s=blazecut inside the lid of your machine? It's basically a pressurized flexible tube filled with 'no-mess' extinguishing agent, and it'll melt & release the agent at a certain temperature.

I had not considered it before now.
Have you installed one on yours?
Gene, I will be looking for reviews also, let me know if you run across some.

i do not have one installed yet, i'm concerned with the vertical clearance necessary so the laser head doesn't bump into it, and with the extraction fans going, how much extinguishing will it do before its sucked out?

these seem very popular for older cars, to mount over their engines (particularly the old rear engine VW buses) so you might find more information on them on forums catering to those topics.

I actually run mine with the cover open 98% of the time, and I have a great plenty of room anyway. I guess I would drop the lid and turn off the exhaust?
I have had fires but nothing I could not blow out with an air hose (which is attached to the front of the cabinet) and air is handy for blowing small parts off the fixtures and other things. Gene

the Mrs. required i install a door safety switch for the laser, so mine only fires with the lid closed.

Yeah, clearance might be a bit of an issue.
I think if I remove the light in the top rear of laser it would wrap around ok.
I have exactly 6' on three sides so the six footer might be too long by the time it bends around the corners.
Like Gene, I would have to get used to closing the lid for it to work.
But even if you mounted with the lid open, it is better than not having it.
I will definitely give this some more thought.
