That's a good point. I had measured the mounts and can go as high as 63 mm diameter but that would be with minimal "cushioning," as in direct steel contact with the tube. Chop a mm off for a layer of tape, but with anything in the fifties, I can put back some of the high density foam wrap originally in place.

My plan has been to go with Russ' mounts for a while now anyway. I'm not sure what your mounts look like but mine are sorely lacking in the adjustability department, much less the quality of the "installation" job at the factory.

If you'd like, I can just order enough to make two sets and split the cost?

LaserClamps.jpeg

The clamps shown in the photo above are inverted, as the smaller diameter shaft drops into a recess in the main mount on the deck of the machine, in back. The threaded portion fits into a recess as well, while the hex nut provides for vertical adjustment with quite good precision. I've added the extensions shown, because the locking bolt in the bottom of the support was engaging at the very edge of the smaller diameter shaft. At least now, there's more metal to engage and perhaps the new laser tube will require adjustment to move the intersection of the two pieces clear of the bolt.

The extensions are about 25mm long and I think I meant to make them 15mm but can't find my notes. When/if I order the tube, I'll be able to unthread the extension, cut to length and re-attach.

What mounts has Russ created? I must have missed that class. I'd like to see his work, but I don't think I'll need to order a set, as these are working well and I'd probably design and build my own 3D printed mounts if they didn't work. Now that I write this, I might have seen his work and felt the same way at the time.

There's some satisfaction to be had from designing and building a solution to a problem or project. I expect that many or most of us feel that way, or else we wouldn't be here!

Fred, What did you decide to do?

I had my mind set on upgrading my tube to an 80w Reci from Light Object, however it seems they are having customer service issues.
I ordered a beam splitter from Light Object, and never received it. I have tried repeatedly to contact them via email, phone. No response. Bummer!

I may give Laser Tube Depot a shot their 60 and 80 watt tubes looks promising.

Seems to me the 10,000 hour tube is a far better value, except for the additional expense of the power supply and tube mounting.

If you mean Laser Depot USA, a Google search on that name is interesting.
